Learn how to successfully add data to your charts to make your QI projects even more meaningful
In Simana you can input data directly into a chart or copy from another spreadsheet.
There are two ways to add data to your chart: Manually and Copy & Paste
How to manually add data into a chart
- Select the chart to enlarge it.
- Select Data from the options on the top right of the chart.
- From here you can input your data into the appropriate columns, which will then plot on your chart in parallel.
- Other chart data such as the baseline and control limit information will be automatically calculated and applied to your chart alongside data entry.
Copying and pasting from a spreadsheet
If you have large quantities of data already recorded in a spreadsheet, you can copy and paste your data directly from the spreadsheet into Simana.
To do this you need to make sure that the spreadsheet columns match those specified on the datasheet within Simana. Each chart type has a different set of data columns, so you need to make sure the order on the Life QI datasheet and your spreadsheet match. You must paste in complete rows, so make sure you have data in each cell for the rows you wish to paste in. To copy and paste the data into your datasheet:
- On your spreadsheet, select the rows and columns of data that you want to include in your chart and copy them. Remember not to include column headers in this copy.
- Go to Simana and select your chart to enlarge it.
- Select Data from the options on the top right of the chart.
- In the first cell of the left hand column, right-click and select 'paste' (or quick paste with ctrl+v or cmd+v).
- All of your spreadsheet data will then populate the rows and columns in the Simana chart datasheet.
- Other chart data such as the baseline and control limit information will be automatically calculated and applied to your chart alongside data entry.
If you get an error when trying to paste in your data into a chart within Simana, then this is likely to do with how your data is formatted in your spreadsheet.
As shown in the gif above, under the header Copying data from a spreadsheet, make sure your data is formatted to how the Life QI chart is expecting it:
- E.g. - Column one - Date, Column two - Count, Column three - Sample Size etc.
- Only the expected data should be copied and pasted into the Life QI chart.
- Make sure there are no extra cells, rows or columns are being copied to avoid any errors.
- Make sure not to include any column headers in your copy.
- If applicable, make sure the date in your spreadsheet data is formatted correctly to how Simana is expecting it - dd/mm/yyyy or dd/mm/yy.
