Aggregate charts summarise data from multiple data sources
Aggregate charts are used to visualise data from multiple data sources in a way that's easier to read and understand, and to help identify unusual behaviour.
- Summarising data
Aggregate charts can summarise data into visual depictions that are quick and easy to read.
- Identifying unusual behaviour
By summarising data, aggregate charts can help identify anything that's out of place. For example, an aggregate chart can show a spike in traffic at a specific time, which can then be investigated to determine the cause.
- Creating side-by-side comparisons
Aggregate charts can be used to create side-by-side comparisons of data over a period of time.
How to create an aggregate chart
To create an aggregate chart, you will need to:
- Create a chart you want to receive your data sources (Your aggregate chart).
- Have at least two charts which will be data sources.
- Configure your data sources to "map" the data into the aggregate chart.
Create your aggregate chart
- Create a chart you that you want to become your aggregate chart.
- This should be of the same chart type as the data source charts.
- e.g. If your data source charts are pareto charts, create a pareto chart.
Add your data sources
You now need to select the charts which will act as data sources for your aggregate chart.
- Select your newly created aggregate chart to enlarge it.
- Select Data from the top right hand corner of the page.
- Select Configure table.
- Look for the Sources header and select the toggle next to Enable sources.
(Blue is on, grey is off).
- Select Manage Sources.
- Select Add Source.
- Search for a data source charts and select it.
- Repeat steps 6 and 7 until you have selected all your data sources.
Configure your data sources
You now need to configure the data source charts with the data your aggregate chart will receive. This is known as "Mapping table columns".
- Under the Manage sources header, select the cog icon next to the first data source.
- Optional - Rename your data source by selecting the text under the Data source name header.
- Under the Map table columns header, select + Add Mapping.
- You will now see two drop down boxes appear.
- The left drop down box is for your Aggregate chart.
- The right drop down box is for your Data source chart.
- In the left drop down box, select it and choose Value from the options.
- In the right drop down box, select it and choose the Value input in your Data source chart.
- Repeat steps 5 and 6 for the other options in both drop down boxes that you would like mapped from your data source chart to your aggregate chart.
- e.g. Select the Count option for both corresponding boxes to map the source count data.
- Repeat steps 5 and 6 for the other options in both drop down boxes that you would like mapped from your data source chart to your aggregate chart.
- When a Count mapping is selected, you will be able to configure how the aggregate chart calculates the data source count data. The following calculation options can be selected:
- Sum - The sum of all data source count data.
- Average - The average of all data source count data.
- Count - The count of all data source count data.
- Max - The max count value from all data source data.
- Min - The minimum count value from all data source data.
- Repeat steps 1 through 7 so that all selected data sources have their data columns mapped to the aggregate chart.
Once you have mapped all data columns to the aggregate chart, navigate to Manage sources and select Refresh data. Your aggregate chart will now be populated with the data source data.
